Courier Service from India to Japan, Picked Up in Mumbai

Sending something to Japan should not mean queues, confusing paperwork or guessing where your parcel is. Our courier service from India to Japan handles it end to end: we collect from your doorstep in Mumbai, prepare the export paperwork, move your shipment by air and see it through Japan Customs to the recipient’s door in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya or anywhere else in the country.

Whether it is a university document, a gift for family, Indian groceries or samples for a Japanese buyer, you get a clear quote before pickup, tracking updates along the way and a team in Mumbai you can actually call.

What Can You Send from Mumbai to Japan?

We handle most everyday and commercial shipments to Japan. These are the ones customers send most often:

  • Documents and papers: academic transcripts, degree certificates, visa and immigration papers, legal agreements, contracts and bank documents, sent tracked to a named recipient.
  • Personal parcels and gifts: clothes, ethnic wear, festival gifts, books, utensils, home décor and keepsakes for family and friends in Japan.
  • Student and relocation baggage: extra luggage, books and personal effects for students and professionals moving to Japan, without paying airline excess baggage fees. See our guide to shipping luggage overseas.
  • Indian food and spices: packaged, shelf-stable snacks, sweets, spices, tea and pantry items. Meat, dairy and fresh produce are not allowed. Read our tips on sending food overseas.
  • Medicines and wellness products: within Japan’s personal-use limits (explained below).
  • Business samples and e-commerce orders: product samples, garments, handicrafts, small-batch exports and regular parcels for Japanese customers, with commercial invoices prepared for you.
  • Heavy and bulk cargo: larger consignments move through our air freight cargo service with customs handling.

Mumbai to Japan Courier Delivery Time

Most shipments from Mumbai reach Japan within a few working days. The exact time depends on the service you choose and on customs clearance in Japan.

Service Typical transit* Best for
Express 3–5 working days Documents, urgent parcels, time-sensitive samples
Standard 6–10 working days Gifts, personal parcels, planned shipments
Air freight cargo Quoted per shipment Heavy, bulk or commercial consignments

*Indicative, counted from pickup. Subject to flight schedules, customs clearance and the delivery address.

Courier Charges from Mumbai to Japan: What Decides the Price

There is no single per-kg rate for Japan, because the price depends on your parcel, not only the destination. We give you a clear quote before pickup, so you know the cost before you commit.

How to keep your cost down

  • Pack snugly in a right-sized box to cut volumetric weight.
  • Combine items into one shipment instead of sending several small parcels.
  • Choose Standard when you are not in a hurry.
  • Declare contents and value accurately, so the parcel is not held for inspection.

Japan Customs, Duties and Documents

Customs is where most international parcels get delayed. We prepare the paperwork on the Indian side and coordinate clearance in Japan, so your shipment does not sit in a warehouse.

Documents we need from you

Shipment type Typically required
Personal parcels and gifts Sender’s photo ID and address proof; a list of contents with values; recipient’s full name, address with postal code and phone number
Documents Sender’s ID; recipient’s complete address and phone number
Commercial and e-commerce Commercial invoice, packing list, IEC (Import Export Code), GSTIN and the export clearance details for your business
Medicines Copy of the doctor’s prescription, product details and quantity within Japan’s limits

Requirements vary by what you ship. We confirm exactly what is needed when you book.

What You Cannot Send to Japan, or Can Send Only with Conditions

Not accepted

  • Narcotics, psychotropic drugs and stimulants
  • Firearms, ammunition, explosives and weapons
  • Counterfeit or pirated goods and obscene materials
  • Cash and currency
  • Flammables, aerosols, compressed gases and other dangerous goods
  • Meat and meat products, fresh fruit and vegetables, live plants and seeds
  • Alcohol, tobacco and vaping products (generally not carried by couriers and tightly regulated in Japan)

Allowed with conditions

  • Medicines: for personal use, up to a one-month supply of prescription medicine, a two-month supply of non-prescription medicine and 24 pieces per item of external-use medicine can go without a special permit. More than that needs a Yakkan Shoumei (import certificate) from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, obtained before shipping. Some cold and sinus medicines contain ingredients treated as stimulants in Japan, so check first.
  • Cosmetics: up to 24 pieces per item for personal use.
  • Food: shelf-stable, sealed, packaged items are usually fine. Anything containing meat or dairy needs checking, and rice, grains and plant products fall under Japan’s plant quarantine rules.
  • Batteries and electronics: devices with built-in batteries can usually go. Loose lithium batteries and power banks have air transport limits.
  • Liquids: need leak-proof, sealed packing. Perfumes and aerosols are restricted.

Not sure about an item? Message us before you pack. A two-minute check can save the parcel.

Delivery Across Japan

We deliver to addresses throughout Japan, from Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nagoya to Fukuoka, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima and smaller towns. Shipments enter Japan through its major air gateways, such as Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda and Osaka’s Kansai, and continue with local delivery partners to the door.

Address tip: include the 7-digit postal code and a working phone number. If you can, write the address in Japanese as well as English, which helps local delivery. Remote areas and islands can take an extra day or two.

Frequently Asked Questions For International Courier Services

How do I send a courier from Mumbai to Japan?

Call us or book online, share what you are sending and the recipient’s address, and choose Express or Standard. We collect from your door in Mumbai, prepare the export paperwork, ship by air and clear customs in Japan. You can follow it on our Track Your Shipment page until delivery.

How long does a courier from Mumbai to Japan take?

Express usually takes 3–5 working days and Standard about 6–10 working days from pickup. Customs inspection, missing paperwork, remote delivery areas and Japanese public holidays can add time.

What are the courier charges from Mumbai to Japan per kg?

Charges depend on chargeable weight (the higher of actual and volumetric weight), the service you choose, what is inside and where in Japan it is going. Share your parcel details and we will give you a clear quote before pickup.

What is the cheapest way to send a parcel from India to Japan?

Standard service is usually the most economical option when you are not in a hurry. Pack in a right-sized box to reduce volumetric weight, combine items into one shipment and declare contents accurately to avoid inspection delays.

Can I send Indian food, spices and snacks to Japan?

Sealed, shelf-stable, packaged food such as spices, tea, snacks and sweets is commonly sent. Meat products, fresh fruit and vegetables are not allowed, and dairy-containing items, rice, grains and plant products need extra checks because of Japan’s quarantine rules. Tell us what is in the parcel and we will advise before pickup.

Can I send medicines to Japan from India?

For personal use, Japan allows up to a one-month supply of prescription medicine, a two-month supply of non-prescription medicine and 24 pieces per item of external-use medicine without a special permit. Larger quantities need a Yakkan Shoumei import certificate before shipping, and narcotics and stimulant-class drugs are restricted. Keep a copy of the prescription.

Can businesses and online sellers ship to Japan regularly?

Yes. We support regular shipments for exporters and e-commerce sellers, with commercial invoices and customs paperwork prepared for each consignment. Talk to us about a repeat shipping arrangement.
